Vegetable producing farmers staged a unique protest on Sunday morning at Tanki intersection near the Collector's bungalow. They threw a large quantity of tomatoes on the road and blocked it. Actually, a day before on Saturday, the Municipal Corporation team had removed the temporary encroachment of vegetable purchasing shopkeepers from the Haat Maidan area. Due to this, the shopkeepers refused to buy tomatoes etc. from the farmers on Sunday.
The shopkeepers said that they did not have space left to stock tomatoes etc. Frustrated by this, the shopkeepers and farmers reached Tanki intersection and blocked the road by throwing a large quantity of tomatoes on the road. The farmers stood at the intersection blocking it for about half an hour.
