A one-kilometre-long traffic jam caused by improperly parked vehicles during a wedding ceremony forced authorities to divert the convoy of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav during his visit to Orchha late Saturday night.

The congestion occurred near Hotel Orchha Palace, where a marriage function was underway. Officials said inadequate parking arrangements by the hotel management resulted in vehicles spilling onto the main road, blocking the route designated for the Chief Minister's convoy.

Convoy Route Changed

According to district officials, the Chief Minister's convoy was scheduled to pass through the affected stretch. However, after traffic personnel found the road heavily congested with parked vehicles, security agencies altered the convoy's route to ensure smooth and safe movement.

The disruption also caused inconvenience to local commuters using the road.

Hotel Management Under Scanner

Niwari Superintendent of Police Dr. Rai Singh Narwaria said the hotel management had failed to make adequate parking arrangements despite hosting a large wedding gathering.

He stated that the lack of proper traffic management led to road congestion and created difficulties for both the public and the administration.

"The hotel management did not ensure sufficient parking facilities for guests, resulting in traffic disruption. Appropriate action will be initiated as per the rules," the SP said.

Questions Over Event Management

Officials indicated that the incident highlighted the need for stricter compliance with traffic and parking norms during large private events, particularly in a major tourist destination such as Orchha, where roads are often narrow and witness heavy visitor movement.

Authorities are expected to examine whether the organisers violated local traffic and civic regulations before initiating further action.

Chief Minister's Scheduled Visit

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is on a visit to Niwari district and stayed overnight at Sheesh Mahal Hotel in Orchha.

On Sunday, he is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed Integrated Collectorate Building in Niwari. The programme also includes the distribution of assistive devices to persons with disabilities, bicycles to schoolgirls, and benefits under various government welfare schemes. The Chief Minister will also inspect an exhibition showcasing development projects in the district.
