An MBBS student, Yashraj Uike (21), died after falling under suspicious circumstances from the Ravishankar Shukla Boys’ Hostel in Gwalior. The postmortem report revealed severe injuries to his abdomen and elbow, leading to multi-organ damage and internal bleeding. Yashraj, a resident of Ranipura in Betul, had recently taken admission to Gajra Raja Medical College this year.
Around 9:45 pm on Monday, Yashraj reportedly fell from the hostel building after visiting his roommate Praveen Sahariya. He had been staying unofficially at the hostel as he hadn’t yet been allotted a room. Police found his mobile phone nearby and believe the fall was accidental, ruling out suicide for now.
How the incident happened:
According to police and postmortem findings, Yashraj was sitting on the railing with his legs hanging down when he accidentally fell backward. The fall caused a severe elbow injury and abdominal trauma that damaged his liver and other organs. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital.
Family’s statement:
Yashraj’s father, Pancham Uike, said his son was not the kind of person to commit suicide, suggesting something else may have happened. However, the family has not alleged ragging or foul play yet.
Police investigation:
Station in-charge Shakti Singh Yadav (Jhansi Road Police Station) said Yashraj’s mobile phone has been seized and will be analyzed to check recent calls and messages. The police are also verifying if there was any external involvement in the fall. Hostel warden Surendra Yadav confirmed that how the student fell remains under investigation.
Background and context:
Yashraj had cleared NEET this year and joined the MBBS program. He had returned to Gwalior from his hometown after Diwali. Despite not being officially allotted a room, he was staying with a friend in the hostel. The incident caused panic in the hostel, and guards rushed him to the hospital immediately.
Police and forensic experts are awaiting the detailed postmortem report to determine whether the fall was accidental or involved any foul play. Doctors are expected to submit the full report to the police today.
