New Principal Secretary of MP Assembly: AP Singh retires after serving as PS since 2016

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Secretary Arvind Sharma will take over as the new Principal Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The current Principal Secretary, AP Singh, retires today after serving in the role for nine years. Following his retirement, Singh is set to be appointed as an Administrative Member of the State Human Rights Commission, with the official orders expected shortly.

Arvind Sharma, currently serving as Secretary of the Assembly, will assume the role of Chief Secretary. AP Singh confirmed that the Assembly Speaker, Narendra Singh Tomar, has approved Sharma’s appointment. Sharma has previously served as a Director in the Lok Sabha and was brought into the Madhya Pradesh Assembly after Tomar became the Speaker.

Farewell ceremony

A farewell ceremony for AP Singh will be held today at the Assembly Secretariat in the presence of Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar. Earlier, on Monday, a day before his retirement, former MLA Mandal honored Avadhesh Pratap Singh of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

Singh has served as the Chief Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly since 2016. After his retirement in 2023, he was granted two one-year extensions, making him the only officer to hold the Chief Secretary position in the Assembly continuously for ten years. However, the opposition Congress leader and leader of the opposition in the Assembly, Umang Singhar, opposed the appointment, stating that the party may approach the High Court against Singh’s nomination.
