Farmers from nearly a dozen villages around Rajgarh staged a road blockade on Thursday after allegedly failing to get urea fertiliser for three consecutive days.

The farmers had reached the Marketing Cooperative Society located near the Collectorate to purchase fertiliser. However, after being informed that urea was not available, some farmers placed barricades and motorcycles on the Jaipur-Jabalpur National Highway, blocking traffic.

The blockade continued for around 30 minutes, disrupting the movement of vehicles on the busy highway.

Farmers Seek Fertiliser After Rain

The demand for urea has increased following recent rainfall as farmers prepare their fields and crops require additional fertiliser.

According to the farmers, they had been trying to obtain urea for several days but were unable to secure supplies despite repeated attempts.

The shortage eventually led to the protest outside the cooperative fertiliser outlet.

Police Reach Spot

Police reached the location after receiving information about the road blockade.

Officials intervened and spoke with the protesting farmers. After around half an hour, the farmers agreed to clear the highway and traffic movement resumed.

The incident comes amid concerns among farmers over the availability of fertiliser during the ongoing agricultural season.

Cooperative Had No Urea Stock

A district marketing official said the cooperative facility has the capacity to store up to 1,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser, but there was no urea stock available at the facility on Thursday.

Officials said efforts were being made to arrange supplies from another location.

The official also said that complaints regarding private sellers charging more than the prescribed price would be investigated and action would be taken if the allegations were found to be true.

Farmers Directed to Private Outlet

Assistant Director of Agriculture, Rajgarh, Prahlad Singh Barela, said some farmers had protested after finding that fertiliser was unavailable at the cooperative warehouse.

According to Barela, officials subsequently arranged urea for the farmers through a private outlet at the prescribed rate.

The administration is now working to arrange additional fertiliser supplies to address the shortage and prevent further disruption for farmers during the crop season.
