Despite the advancement of the monsoon season, Madhya Pradesh continues to face a significant rainfall deficit across large parts of the state. While isolated districts have received spells of heavy showers, widespread and sustained rainfall has remained elusive, leaving the state around 15% below its normal rainfall for this time of the season. According to the latest weather assessment, 39 districts are currently recording below-normal rainfall, although meteorologists expect the monsoon to regain momentum after July 20 with the formation of a fresh weather system.

The southwest monsoon has remained stalled since June 8, marking the third consecutive year that India has witnessed a prolonged break in monsoon advancement during June. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country received only 46.2 mm of rainfall against the normal 74.3 mm between June 1 and June 17, resulting in a 37.8% rainfall deficit.
