The Rewa Municipal Corporation Council meeting on Tuesday witnessed an unusual political confrontation as BJP councillors protested against the municipal administration, accusing officials of failing to resolve basic civic issues despite repeated assurances. In a symbolic gesture, the councillors presented bangles to the Municipal Commissioner and other officials, expressing their frustration over the pace of development works and public grievances.

The protest was significant as it came from members of the ruling party rather than the opposition, reflecting growing dissatisfaction over the functioning of the civic body.

Councillors Accuse Officials of Inaction

During the meeting, BJP councillors alleged that promises made by municipal officials had largely remained on paper, while residents continued to struggle with unresolved issues in their wards.

They said people were increasingly holding elected representatives accountable for poor civic services, even though the execution of development works rested with the administration. According to the councillors, delays in addressing basic infrastructure concerns have led to growing public resentment.

Council Chairperson Highlights Public Anger

Council Chairperson Venkatesh Pandey echoed the councillors' concerns, stating that residents often blame public representatives for civic shortcomings.

He said councillors have been facing criticism and even verbal abuse from citizens over pending works. Unless problems are resolved in a timely manner, he warned, the credibility of elected representatives would continue to suffer.

Earlier Assurances Questioned

The councillors reminded officials that a review meeting with the Municipal Commissioner had taken place around two weeks ago, during which several civic issues were discussed and assurances were given regarding their resolution.

However, they claimed little progress had been made since then.

They also pointed to recent rainfall, saying it exposed the shortcomings of the corporation's preparations. Roads dug up for construction work in the Civil Lines area remain incomplete, creating inconvenience for commuters and increasing the risk of accidents.

Waterlogging Dominates Meeting

Waterlogging emerged as one of the key concerns during the council proceedings.

Councillors alleged that even light rainfall led to flooding in several residential colonies, with water entering houses in some localities. They argued that the situation reflected inadequate drain cleaning and an ineffective stormwater drainage system.

Members urged the administration to take immediate corrective measures before the monsoon intensifies further.

Pressure Mounts on Civic Administration

The symbolic protest by BJP councillors has placed the functioning of the Rewa Municipal Corporation under renewed scrutiny. The unusual display of dissent from the ruling party highlighted increasing pressure on civic officials to improve public services and accelerate pending development projects.
