Unidentified Man's Body Found in Rewa's Govindgarh Lake; Missing Hand Raises Crocodile Attack Suspicion

The body of an unidentified man, believed to be around 30 years old, was recovered from Govindgarh Lake in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, police said. The discovery has triggered an investigation, with officials probing whether the missing right hand was the result of a possible crocodile attack or occurred under other circumstances.
The incident came to light in the Govindgarh police station area, where local residents spotted the body floating in the lake and alerted the authorities. Police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Identity Yet to Be Established
According to police, the deceased has not yet been identified. Investigators found a set of belongings on the lake's ghat, including a pair of blue jeans, slippers, and a cream-and-white T-shirt believed to belong to the victim. The clothing and personal items have been seized as evidence.
Police said the man was not wearing any clothes when the body was recovered from the water.
Missing Hand Under Investigation
During the preliminary examination, officers found that one of the victim's hands was missing, leading to speculation that a crocodile may have attacked the body after it entered the lake. However, police have not confirmed this possibility and said the exact cause of death will only be determined after the post-mortem report and forensic examination.
Investigators are examining all possible angles, including accidental drowning, foul play, and wildlife involvement.
Police Seek Public Assistance
To establish the victim's identity, Govindgarh police have circulated details of the case to police stations across Rewa district. Authorities have appealed to the public to come forward if anyone recognises the description of the deceased or has information regarding any missing person matching his profile.
