PM Modi Shares Delhi Metro Journey to SRCC

PM Modi shared glimpses of his Delhi Metro journey to and from SRCC's centenary programme, where he interacted with students and commuters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday shared glimpses of his journey on the Delhi Metro while travelling to and from the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) centenary celebrations in the national capital.

Modi travelled by metro on September 5 to attend the programme marking 100 years of SRCC, where he addressed students, faculty members and alumni. The Prime Minister also interacted with fellow passengers during the journey, including young commuters and students.

SRCC marks 100 years

The metro journey preceded Modi's participation in the centenary celebrations of SRCC, one of Delhi University's prominent commerce institutions.

At the programme, Modi spoke about SRCC's contribution to education, business and public life and recalled his earlier association with the institution. The Prime Minister had previously addressed students at the college in 2013, when he was Gujarat Chief Minister. His latest visit came 13 years after that engagement.

The centenary celebrations brought together students, faculty members, alumni and former members of the institution.

One of the notable aspects of the metro journey was Modi's interaction with young passengers.

Reports said the Prime Minister spoke with students and other commuters during the journey. A schoolboy's interaction with Modi also drew attention after the child told him that he wanted to become like him.

The interactions offered passengers an opportunity to speak directly with the Prime Minister outside the formal setting of the SRCC programme.

Metro journey shared on social media

After the visit, Modi shared photographs and moments from his metro journey to and from the SRCC programme.

The Prime Minister's Office also issued an official update featuring the metro journey. The PIB said Modi shared moments from his travel while going to and returning from the SRCC programme.

The photographs showed the Prime Minister travelling alongside other passengers and interacting with people during the journey.

Focus on youth engagement

Modi's visit to SRCC also provided an opportunity for him to engage directly with students at a major higher-education institution.

His interaction with young commuters during the metro journey and his subsequent address at the college placed students and India's younger population prominently in the day's programme.

The visit comes at a time when the government has continued to emphasise education, entrepreneurship, skills and opportunities for young Indians in its public messaging.

PM returns to SRCC after 13 years

The September 5 visit marked Modi's return to SRCC after his earlier appearance at the institution in 2013.

The college's centenary celebrations therefore brought together his earlier association with the institution and its current milestone. During his address, Modi also spoke about India's economic transformation and the role of young people in the country's future.

The metro journey added a public-facing element to the visit, with the Prime Minister travelling alongside commuters before and after his participation in the centenary event.
