Mahesh Navami 2025: Significance, Story, and Worship Method

Celebrate Mahesh Navami by understanding its sacred story, the importance of Lord Shiva’s blessings, and the traditional worship rituals associated with this auspicious day.

The festival of Mahesh Navami dedicated to Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati will be celebrated with reverence and devotion this year on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. This festival is celebrated every year on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. According to religious belief, on this day Lord Shiva granted salvation to 72 cursed Kshatriyas. This Kshatriya dynasty later came to be known as "Maheshwari Samaj". Therefore, this day is also celebrated as the origin day of Maheshwari Samaj.

According to the Panchang, Navami Tithi started on June 03 at 09:56 pm and will end on June 04 at 11:54 pm. On this basis, fasting and worship is being celebrated on June 04. On this day, devotees duly worship Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati, Ganeshji, Kartikeya and Nandi. Water, milk, Belpatra, Dhatura and ashes are offered on the Shivling. The story of Shiva-Parvati is heard and a fast is observed. The festival of Mahesh Navami is concluded by performing aarti and lighting lamps in the evening.

Special prayers will be offered in various temples

It is believed that worshipping the Shiv family on this day leads to freedom from the sins of the previous birth, happiness of children, peace in married life, and progress of the family lineage. Special prayers, rituals and feasts are organized in various temples across the country. Many cultural and religious programs are also organized by the Maheshwari community.
