The shooting of Maa Vande, a biographical film based on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially commenced, with Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan cast in the lead role. The makers confirmed the development on Saturday through a post on their official X handle, marking the start of production with a traditional puja ceremony.
According to the production team, filming began after a formal prayer ritual held at the shooting location, visuals of which were shared in a short video. Announcing the launch, the makers wrote, “The shooting of Maa Vande is now rolling. A new chapter unfolds to tell the story of the person who shaped the destiny of a nation.”
The film is being produced by Veer Reddy M under the banner of Silver Cast Creations and is directed by Kranti Kumar CH. The project was first announced in September last year on the occasion of Prime Minister Modi’s birthday, generating significant attention across film and political circles.
Unni Mukundan, known for his work in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu cinema, steps into the role of the Prime Minister at a time when biographical narratives on political figures continue to draw strong audience interest. The actor last appeared in Marco (2024) and is regarded for his performances in films such as Malikappuram, Meppadiyan, and Vikramadithyan.
Born in Thrissur, Kerala, Mukundan spent a substantial part of his early life in Gujarat and completed his schooling in Ahmedabad, a connection that adds contextual resonance to his portrayal. In 2021, he won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam for Meppadiyan as its producer.
In 2023, Mukundan had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Kochi, a moment that later drew attention after his casting was announced.
Maa Vande is expected to trace key phases of Narendra Modi’s life and political journey. Further details regarding the film’s release timeline and supporting cast are awaited as production progresses.
