A trainer aircraft operated by a private company was involved in a runway-excursion incident at the Baramati airstrip in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Sunday, August 9, police said.

No injuries were reported in the incident, according to preliminary information cited by the Press Trust of India.

Aircraft Leaves Runway

Local reports differ on the precise stage of operation during which the incident occurred. The Maharashtra Times reported that the aircraft skidded off the runway while landing. Another report said the accident happened while the aircraft was taxiing before take-off.

Authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement confirming whether the runway excursion occurred during landing, take-off preparations or taxiing.

The aircraft’s registration number, model, operator and number of people on board were alsoawaiting official confirmation at the time of publication.

Cause Yet to Be Established

Officials are expected to examine the aircraft, runway conditions, weather and operational records to determine what caused the incident. No mechanical failure or pilot error has been officially established.

The aircraft reportedly remained close to the airstrip, allowing emergency and airport personnel to reach the location quickly.
