Berkshire Hathaway Increases Google Holdings, Reduces Apple Stake as Markets Hover Near Record Highs

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. has reshaped its portfolio in the third quarter of the 2025-26 financial year, increasing its stake in Alphabet while trimming holdings in Apple and Bank of America, according to recent filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Berkshire now holds 17.85 million shares of Alphabet, valued at approximately $4.9 billion as of Friday’s market close. The move signals Buffett’s growing confidence in the tech giant amid mixed performance in other parts of his portfolio.
Meanwhile, Berkshire reduced its stake in Apple, the conglomerate’s largest holding, selling 41.8 million shares and bringing the total down to 238.2 million shares, valued at $60.7 billion. Analysts note that Apple’s iPhone business, while still dominant, has faced cooling demand and market saturation, prompting gradual trimming by institutional investors like Berkshire.
The company also sold 37.2 million shares of Bank of America, though it continues to maintain a 7.7% stake, making the financial institution Berkshire’s third-largest holding. Additionally, the conglomerate exited its position in U.S. homebuilder D.R. Horton entirely.
These portfolio adjustments coincide with Warren Buffett, 95, preparing to step down as CEO at the end of the year. Recent strategic moves include acquiring Occidental Petroleum Corp’s petrochemical unit for $9.7 billion and taking a $1.6 billion stake in UnitedHealth Group Inc.
U.S. markets have largely remained resilient despite these portfolio shifts. On 14 November, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.65% to 47,147.48 points, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.13% to 22,900.59 points. The S&P 500 closed at 6,734.11 points. Apple shares ended Friday at $272.41, and Alphabet stock closed at $276.98.
Berkshire’s moves underscore a cautious yet strategic approach, balancing exposure to high-growth technology with risk management as Buffett’s tenure nears its close and market conditions evolve.
