EPFO launches passbook lite for faster access to member services and streamlined claim settlement
Digital Desk
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced transformative reforms to enhance digital services for its over 7 crore members. Union Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced these key initiatives on September 18, 2025, focusing on improving transparency, reducing processing times, and providing seamless access to PF services.
Passbook Lite: Single-Login Access to PF Details
EPFO has launched "Passbook Lite" within its member portal, eliminating the need for separate logins to access PF information. Previously, members had to navigate different portals to view their contributions, withdrawals, and account balances, creating inconvenience and system load.
The new feature integrates essential PF details directly into the member portal, allowing users to view a simplified, summarized version of their transactions with just one login. Members can access their contributions, withdrawals, and current balance in a convenient format without visiting the separate passbook portal.
For members requiring detailed insights with graphical representations, the existing Passbook Portal remains available. This dual approach reduces traffic on the main passbook system while improving operational efficiency through API integration.
Online Access to Annexure K: Enhanced Transfer Transparency
A significant reform enables members to directly download Annexure K (Transfer Certificate) in PDF format from the member portal. Previously, when employees changed jobs and transferred their PF accounts via Form 13, the Transfer Certificate was only shared between PF offices and accessible to members upon request.
This development provides several advantages:
-
Real-time tracking of PF transfer applications with full transparency
-
Verification capability to ensure PF balances and service periods are correctly updated in new accounts
-
Permanent digital record maintenance for future reference, particularly important for Employee Pension Scheme (EPS) calculations
Members can now independently verify their PF transfers and maintain complete control over their transfer documentation.
Streamlined Approval Process: Faster Claim Settlements
EPFO has rationalized its approval hierarchy to address processing delays. Powers previously held by Regional Provident Fund Commissioners (RPFC) or Officers-in-Charge have been delegated to Assistant P.F. Commissioners and subordinate levels in a structured manner.
This reform covers multiple services including:
-
PF transfers and settlements
-
Advances and past accumulations
-
Refunds and cheque/ECS/NEFT returns
-
Interest adjustments
The streamlined process is expected to deliver faster claim settlements, reduced processing times, simplified approval layers, and improved accountability at field office levels.
Digital Integration Benefits
These reforms align with EPFO's broader digitization strategy, building on previous improvements such as enhanced auto-settlement limits and simplified member profile updates. The single-login approach for key services is expected to reduce member grievances, improve transparency, and boost overall satisfaction.
The integration of APIs within the member portal not only enhances user experience but also reduces technical load on existing systems, improving operational efficiency across EPFO's digital infrastructure.
These comprehensive reforms represent EPFO's commitment to "ease of living" for members and demonstrate the organization's focus on leveraging technology for transparent, efficient service delivery.
