'I was not present there, whatever happened was wrong...' Rahul Gandhi's big statement on Sikh riots
New Delhi. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi always questions the ruling party through his comments. Meanwhile, while answering a question related to the 1984 riots and Congress's relationship with the Sikh community, Rahul Gandhi said that many of the mistakes made by the Congress happened when he was not there.
He further said that he would be happy to take responsibility for whatever mistakes the party has made in its history. Rahul Gandhi said that he has publicly said that what happened in the 80s was wrong.

In fact, a Sikh student questioned the Congress leader about what efforts he is making to reconcile with the Sikh community. The student also referred to Rahul Gandhi's remarks during his last visit to the US, in which Rahul had said that the fight he is fighting is about whether Sikhs will be allowed to wear turbans in India or not.
In response to this, Rahul Gandhi said that I do not think Sikhs are afraid of anything. The statement I made was that do we want an India where people feel uncomfortable expressing their religion? As far as the mistakes of the Congress party are concerned, many of them happened when I was not there, but I am happy to take responsibility for everything wrong that the Congress party has done in its history.
What happened in the 80s was not right
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that I have said publicly that what happened in the 80s was wrong, I have visited the Golden Temple many times, I have very good relations with the Sikh community in India and I have a loving relationship with them.
