Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, her family announced on Tuesday, August 25. The singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist had spoken publicly about ongoing health issues just four days before her death, saying she was still recovering while continuing to work on projects close to her heart.
Parton’s nephew Bryan Seaver announced her death in a video shared on her social media accounts. He said the family was deeply saddened by her passing and noted that Parton had asked him years earlier to make the announcement when the time came. No official cause of death has been disclosed.
Dolly Parton’s Final Health Update
On August 21, Parton addressed her health in a statement to People, saying she had been dealing with health problems that she had previously neglected while caring for her husband, Carl Dean, before his death in March 2025. Despite those difficulties, she remained focused on her work and future plans.
Earlier this month, Parton also missed the August 14 opening of a new attraction at her Dollywood theme park. In a recorded message, she said she had been experiencing dizziness and dehydration and that her doctor had advised her not to travel that week.
Her health struggles had become more public in 2026. In May, she cancelled plans for a Las Vegas residency and said her immune and digestive systems had been affected over the previous few years. She had also made fewer public appearances while receiving medical care.
