6.9 magnitude earthquake hits Philippines: 60 dead, Over 150 injured

On Tuesday night, 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Bohol province. As of this time, 60 people have died, while around 150 are injured. The highest fatalities, 25, were reported in Bogo city. Authorities fear the death toll may rise as rescue operations continue. Over 150 people have been injured, and several houses collapsed in the tremors.

The epicenter of the earthquake was near Bogo city on Cebu Island. The city has a population of 90,000. After the first tremor, four more shocks of magnitude 5.

Residents rushed out of their homes as rescue teams conducted operations throughout the night.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) initially reported the earthquake as 7.0 magnitude, later downgrading it to 6.9.
