Hemant Soren Urges Waiver of ₹13,000 Cr Anti-Naxal Dues

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren has written to Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting a waiver of ₹13,000 crore incurred by the state for anti-Naxal operations, citing financial burden and the need for central support.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has sent a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in which he has requested to clear the amount of Rs 13,299.69 crore pending on the Jharkhand government regarding the deployment of Central Paramilitary Forces (CRPF). In lieu of the deployment of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) for anti-Naxal operations in Jharkhand, the Central Government has requested the state government to pay the pending dues. In this context, the Chief Minister has written a letter to the Union Home Minister demanding settlement of this amount.

The Chief Minister has mentioned in the letter that a large number of CRPF personnel have been deployed for anti-Naxal operations in Jharkhand. A large part of the cost of this deployment is coming on the state government, due to which a liability of ₹ 13,299 crore has arisen. The state has described this situation as challenging many times.

More than 400 soldiers martyred

The CM said that Naxalism has been a serious problem since the formation of Jharkhand state. The state government is actively running a campaign for Naxal eradication with the help of available resources and Central Reserve Police Force, which has resulted in a decrease in extremist activities. So far, more than 400 police officers and jawans have been martyred during this campaign, who have lost their lives while performing their duty.

It is the shared responsibility of the state and central government to solve the problem of extremism. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government is engaged in economic revival, dealing with disasters and successful implementation of public welfare schemes. Financial pressure on the state has increased due to limited resources, and if the pending amount for the deployment of CAPF is paid, it will put more financial burden on the state, which may affect the development schemes.
