Delhi Bans Old Vehicles: ‘No Fuel’ Rule Enforced
New Delhi
From today, lakhs of old vehicles in Delhi are officially considered junk under the new enforcement drive.
Rekha Gupta Government is going to make the biggest attack on air pollution in Delhi from today i.e. July 1. Under this, the End-of-Life (EOL) rule has come into force in Delhi from today. After its implementation, End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles i.e. old vehicles will not get petrol-diesel at petrol pumps in Delhi. End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles, i.e. old vehicles whose age (15 years) has exceeded the prescribed time, will be identified and seized. The government says that End-of-life vehicles in Delhi will be fined from today. They will be seized from today.
To ensure smooth implementation of this rule, teams of Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), Transport Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and other enforcement agencies including Delhi Police will be present at petrol pumps in Delhi. Also, petrol pumps will be monitored by a third eye.
15-year-old petrol vehicles and 10-year-old diesel vehicles will not get fuel in Delhi from today. If caught, there will also be a challan of Rs 10,000. Two-wheelers whose age is over will be seized and the owner will be fined Rs 5,000.
The government wants to reduce vehicular pollution in Delhi by removing old, highly polluting vehicles from the roads through its new No Fuel For Old Vehicle policy. The joint teams have appealed to all citizens to send their old vehicles for scrapping themselves. So that any kind of emergency situation can be avoided.
What is the new rule?
First of all, know what is the new rule. Recently, the Commission for Air Quality Management had clarified on its behalf that from July 1, 2025, old vehicles in Delhi which have completed their prescribed age limit will not be provided petrol-diesel at petrol pumps. According to the rule, diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years have been placed in the category of End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles. To implement this new rule, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system has been installed at all petrol pumps in Delhi, with the help of which such old vehicles will be identified.
Traffic police deployed at fuel stations, third eye watch
To implement this rule peacefully in Delhi and to deal with any kind of dispute, police force will be deployed at petrol pumps in sensitive areas by Delhi Traffic Police and local police. Because recently the Petrol Pump Association had demanded police force at the fuel station. The association had expressed apprehension that refusal to supply fuel could lead to a dispute between petrol pump operators and vehicle owners. Petrol pumps have been identified as per their sensitivity. At the same time, it is also being seen which petrol pumps need to deploy police personnel 24 hours a day. Apart from this, such petrol pumps have also been identified where there is a high possibility of end of life vehicles coming.
How will this system work?
High-quality cameras have been used in the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system. Which will find out the details of all the vehicles coming to the petrol pump from their number plates. If during this time any old vehicle of end-of-life category comes to the fuel station and is identified, then a public announcement will be made at the petrol pump itself and the vehicle will be seized.
