Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s son, Mohammad Asaduddin, has embarked on his political journey. The Congress party has appointed him as the General Secretary of Telangana Congress. Former cricketer Azharuddin expressed his pride and emotion, writing, “It is a proud and emotional moment for me. My son Mohammad Asaduddin is officially stepping into public life as the General Secretary of Telangana Congress. I have closely witnessed his dedication, commitment, and passion for serving the people.”
“I've always been inclined towards social service”
Mohammad Asaduddin told The Indian Express, “I’ve always been inclined towards social service. I have been working for minorities, the poor, and the socially marginalized. The Congress party has always stood with minorities.”
Mohammad Asaduddin on Cricket
Mohammad Asaduddin, who represented the Hyderabad Ranji Team, said, “Cricket has always been close to my heart. I will always carry it within me.” He added, “I was selected to represent Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy in the 2018-19 season. I lost the peak of my career due to COVID, but I was never disheartened. I always knew I wanted to work for the people.”
Lesson from the 2023 Telangana Assembly Elections
Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin entered politics after his cricketing career. In 2009, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. However, he lost the 2014 parliamentary election from Sawai Madhopur. In the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, the Congress fielded him from Jubilee Hills, but he lost that election as well.
Reflecting on the experience, Mohammad Asaduddin said, “Throughout the campaign, I was with my father and learned the nuances of politics from him. It turned out to be a very educational experience.”
