Shravan is considerd the most auspicious and spritually significant month dedicated to Lord Shiva .
This month is marked via fasting , prayers and rituals , particulary on Mondays which is known as shravan somwar vrat .During shravan somwar many followers fast for 16 Mondays known as sholah somwar to honour Lord Shiva as well as to prayer for prosperity , success, health and marriage , whereas Tuesdays are dedicated to Maa Parvati where devotees observe Mangal Gauri Vrat . Another auspicious days are Shravan Shivrati and Hariyali Amavasya in the month of shravan .
The Importance shravan’s first day .
The first day of shravan is highly significant because it marks the holiest begning of the period dedicated for the worship of Lord Shiva , this month is considered very holy for the spritiual practices like fasting , prayer and meditation , with Mondays holding special importance for shiva devotees . it is the time when cosmic energy is aligned with spiritual growth marking the deepening connection with lord shiva .
Importance of Fasting in the Shravan .
With the spritiual benefits of attaining blessings from lord shiva for peace, prosperity , success , marriage . Fasting during shravan is also believed to have health benefits aligning with seasonal transition and promoting physical detox and mental clarity . it detoxify the body , which is particulary benefical during the monsoon season to adapt weather changes and build immunity .

The shravan according to the purnimanta calendar starts this years on 11th july , Friday in the northern indian states .

The shravan in the 2025 will be ending on 9th August observed with prayers and reverence across the regions .
Why is shravan celebrated ?
Shravan is considered the most auspicious month in the hindu calendar. It is first month of the chaturmas period , which consist of four months ( shravan, bhadrapada , ashwin and kartik ) dedicated to reviering bhakti and divine . according to scriptures lord vishnu , who is considered as the protector of the universe enters yog nidra ( a state of deep meditation ) , on adi shesha ( the seven hooded serpent ) beneath the kshirasagara (cosmic ocean ) . while this period lord shiva takes care of the entier creation . we humans consider it as the preservation and nurtring aspect of life governed by lord vishnu making way for destruction lord shiva . it is also seen as the cycle of endless production of creation , nurturing and destruction . during shravan devotees seek blessings and protection from lord shiva .
There is also an another story which revolves in hindu scriptures – which says that maa parvati carried out hard penance and fasting throughout the month of shravan to marry lord shiva and to have him as her consort . pleased with her dedication and devotin lord shiva became obliged to fulfill her wish – which became a ritualistic practice among womens where they observe shravan somvar fast to attract husband like shiva in the month of shravan .
It is also said that it was the month of the shravan when samudra manthan , which is churning of the milky ocean , during this time 14 types of different jewels emerged from the ( ocean ) samudra . out of this 13 were divide among the asuras and the devas , the 14th jewel halahal remaine untouched due to it being the deadliest posion , which was capable to destroying the entire universe. Lord shiva then drank the halahaland stored it in his throat making it appear blue in color.From then onwards he is also known as neelkantha, all the devas then started pouring water from the holy river ganga to reduce the effect of the posion , they offered bel patra and dhatura as the medicine parvati mata held the troat so that the posion doesn’t spread . all ganas and devas spend time singing praises to lord shiva to give him strength and power to overcome this poison .
Another narrative is this that markandeya , the son of markandu rishi , received the grace of the lord shiva in the month of shravan for longevity as he composed the mahamrityunjyaya mantra . thus this month devotess fast to recieve good health & prosperity throughout the year .
Also it is said that in this month lord shiva visits his in – laws house & is wlcomed with offering , thus this is the best time to receive his benevolent grace .

Shravan shivratri will be observed on Wednesday 23rd july 2025 with nishita kaal puja according to drik panchang .
