Why Devotees Avoid Shani Dev’s Gaze: The Curse Behind the Belief
Shani Dev was cursed by his wife for unknowingly ignoring her, which made his gaze bring hardships to others. Due to this, devotees avoid making direct eye contact with him, believing his powerful vision can cause suffering.
Shani Dev is the ruler of karma and justice. According to Hindu beliefs, one should never make eye contact with Shani Dev. By doing this, a person may have to face many problems. Actually, there is a story behind this, according to which, Shani Dev got this curse from his wife. Let us know the story behind the belief of not being able to make eye contact with Shani Dev.
Wife cursed in anger
According to the story of Brahma Purana, once Shani Dev was engrossed in devotion, then his wife Chitrarath came there with the desire to have a child. But Shani Dev was so engrossed in devotion that he did not pay attention to what his wife said. Chitrarath waited for a long time on this, but even after this Shani Dev's attention was not disturbed. This made Chitrarath very angry and in anger he cursed Shani Dev that whoever you cast your eyes on will be harmed.
That is why it is called Vakra Drishti
When Shanidev's meditation was broken, he regretted his mistake and also apologized to his wife, but by then it was too late. The curse once given cannot be taken back, that is why since then Shanidev always keeps his eyes down, so that his sight does not fall on any person and he remains safe from evil. This is the reason why Shanidev's sight is called Vakra Drishti. Along with this, standing straight in front of Shanidev is also prohibited.
