All these are considered symbols of religion, knowledge, detachment and opulence.

Importance of 4 gates of Jagannath temple?

Eastern gate of the temple Singhdwar: This is the main entrance of Jagannath temple. There are statues of two lions in a bent posture on this gate. It is believed that entering the temple from this gate leads to salvation.

Western gate of the temple Vyaghra Dwar: There is a statue of a tiger on this entrance of Jagannath temple. It teaches to follow religion every moment. Tiger is also considered a symbol of desire. Special devotees and saints enter the temple through this gate.

The northern gate of the temple, Hasti Dwar: There are statues of elephants on both sides of this gate of the temple. Elephant is considered to be the vehicle of Goddess Lakshmi. It is said that the Mughals attacked and damaged these statues of elephants. Later, they were repaired and the statues were placed on the northern gate of the temple. It is said that this gate is for the entry of sages.

The southern gate of the temple, Ashwa Dwar: There are statues of horses on both sides of this gate of the temple. The special thing is that Lord Jagannath and Balabhadra are riding on the back of horses in the glory of war. This gate is known as Vijay.
