In a ceremony filled with pride and celebration, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav felicitated Indian women’s cricket team star and World Cup champion, Kranti Singh Goud, at the CM House in Bhopal on Thursday. The event marked the beginning of a triumphant homecoming for the cricketer, who hails from Ghuvara village in Chhatarpur district.
CM Yadav honoured the athlete by draping a shawl over her shoulders and presenting her with a bouquet, acknowledging her significant contribution to the nation's recent World Cup victory.
The ceremony set the stage for a grand reception in her native district, where the community has decked up to welcome its accomplished daughter.
A District Celebrates its Hero
Following the state-level honour, Kranti proceeded to Chhatarpur, where a series of celebratory events awaited her. Her itinerary included a visit to Krishna University, where she was greeted enthusiastically by students and aspiring sports personalities. She also paid a visit to the Chaupariya Government Temple in Gulganj.
The crescendo of the celebrations was reserved for her arrival in her native village, Ghuvara. Scheduled for around 4:30 PM, a vibrant welcoming procession and a traditional 'tuladan' ceremony were organized, reflecting the immense local pride in her achievements.
A Journey Forged in Resilience
Kranti’s path to becoming a World Cup champion is a powerful narrative of determination in the face of adversity. Hailing from a humble background, her family resides in a small two-room government police quarter.
Her father, Munna Singh, a former Head Constable, has been suspended since 2011, leading to severe financial constraints.
In past interviews, Kranti has revealed that the family’s situation was so dire that affording food was often a struggle. Her cricketing dream was kept alive through immense sacrifice.
Her elder brother, Mayank, supported the family by working in a construction company in Delhi and funded her cricket kit and expenses. In a poignant act of support, her mother, Neelam, even sold her jewellery to finance Kranti's training.
Her cricketing journey began in childhood, playing matches with boys in her village. Her passion led her to stay with her aunt in Makronia and train at a cricket academy in Sagar, honing the skills that would eventually make her a national icon.
An Inspiration Forged in Struggle
Kranti Singh Goud’s return to Chhatarpur is more than a personal victory lap; it is a celebration of an inspiring story of dedication, resilience, and unwavering family support.
Her journey, from a village with limited resources to the global cricketing stage, serves as a potent inspiration for countless aspiring athletes across the region.
The village had already given a glimpse of this pride during the World Cup final, where an LED screen was installed for the community to watch the match.
The air filled with chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', and as India inched closer to victory, celebrations erupted with drumbeats and joyous dancing, foretelling the hero's welcome that awaited their champion.
