Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday called upon graduating students of health sciences to dedicate themselves to public service and humanitarian values. Addressing the fourth convocation of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Memorial Health Sciences and AYUSH University, the CM said that education is not just an academic milestone but a lifelong responsibility towards society.

He emphasized that healthcare professionals play a critical role in ensuring equitable medical access, especially in tribal and remote regions. Governor’s Warning

Governor Ramen Deka, who presided over the convocation, raised concerns about increasing digital dependency among young people. He warned against what he described as a “popcorn mental state,” referring to reduced attention span and instant gratification culture driven by excessive screen time.

Digital Addiction Concerns

The Governor urged parents and educators to encourage children to engage in outdoor activities and sports. He stressed that limited physical interaction and overuse of mobile devices are weakening decision-making and emotional resilience.

He further noted that healthcare professionals must maintain ethical discipline and patient-first values. According to him, the profession demands lifelong commitment and accountability beyond career aspirations.

Healthcare Vision

CM Sai reiterated that Chhattisgarh aims to strengthen its identity not only as an agricultural and mineral-rich state but also as a hub for healthcare innovation and medical education.

He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including a proposed MediCity in Nava Raipur spread across 100 acres with advanced medical facilities. He also mentioned new super-speciality and medical institutions being developed in various regions to improve healthcare access within the state.

Officials stated that these developments aim to reduce dependency on treatment outside Chhattisgarh and ensure local access to quality healthcare services.

Large Number of Graduates

During the convocation, a total of 9,194 degrees were awarded across disciplines including medicine, dentistry, Ayurveda, homoeopathy, nursing, physiotherapy, and biotechnology. Out of these, over 7,500 were undergraduate students, along with postgraduate and super-speciality degree holders.
