A major controversy has erupted at Keshkal Hospital in Kondagaon district after allegations surfaced that a doctor was allegedly intoxicated while on duty and misbehaved with patients and their family members. Following a written complaint by the patient’s family, police have initiated an investigation into the matter. The incident gained attention after a video of the episode went viral, triggering concern within the health department.
According to reports, Dr. Shailendra Bhoyar, posted at Keshkal Hospital, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol while performing his duties. It is claimed that he not only refused to treat patients but also behaved aggressively when questioned by family members.
Patient’s son, Wasim Memon, said that he had brought his ailing father to the hospital in the morning for treatment. When he requested the doctor to examine his father, the doctor allegedly became angry, misbehaved, and even attempted to physically intimidate him. Following the incident, the family informed local journalists and contacted the Keshkal Block Medical Officer (BMO).
The situation escalated further when local journalists arrived at the hospital. According to reports, the doctor allegedly attempted to engage in physical confrontation with media personnel as well, with parts of the incident captured on camera.
Staff nurse Kanti Mandavi alleged that such behavior was not new and claimed that Dr. Bhoyar frequently reported to the hospital under the influence of alcohol. She stated that hospital staff had repeatedly tried to counsel him and had also informed senior officials on several occasions, but no significant improvement was seen. Similar complaints from patients and their families had reportedly surfaced earlier as well.
Keshkal BMO Dr. D.K. Bisen confirmed that complaints regarding Dr. Bhoyar allegedly performing duties while intoxicated had been received previously and notices had also been issued. He stated that senior officials have been informed about the latest incident and assured that appropriate departmental action would be taken based on instructions from higher authorities.
