Raigarh Tops Chhattisgarh in Seizing Illegal Paddy; Over Rs 1 Crore Worth Confiscated

Raigarh district has emerged as the leading district in Chhattisgarh for the seizure of illegal paddy, with over 7,300 quintals confiscated so far, valued at more than Rs 1 crore. Simultaneously, farmers in the district have sold 64,298 quintals of paddy at procurement centers under the state’s minimum support price (MSP) scheme.

The paddy procurement drive, which began on November 15, initially faced delays as some centers could not open accounts, but farmer participation has steadily increased. Currently, 105 paddy procurement centers operate under 69 primary cooperative societies across the district, and buying continues actively.

Alongside legitimate procurement, authorities have taken strict action against illegal paddy. So far, 43 cases have been registered in the district, making Raigarh the state leader in illegal paddy seizures. Significant confiscations include:

  • Mahanpalli: 6,500 bags seized from Manish Agrawal’s warehouse

  • Netnagar, Pusaur: 1,250 bags from Mangal Saw

  • Dharamjaygarh: 1,000 bags from Mukesh Agrawal

  • Lailunga: 739 bags from Tolge Lakshman Patel

In total, 18,250 bags, equivalent to 7,300 quintals, have been seized across these 43 cases.

District Food Officer Chitranjan Singh stated that the robust participation of farmers in selling paddy has created a positive environment at procurement centers. At the same time, strict measures against illegal storage have reinforced Raigarh’s top ranking in the state for illegal paddy seizures.

Authorities continue to monitor both procurement and illegal activity closely to ensure fair trade and compliance with MSP guidelines.
