A major burglary has been reported from Rewa district where unidentified thieves broke into a locked house and fled with cash and valuables worth several lakhs. The incident has raised concerns among residents about rising theft cases in the area.
Incident reported from Karahiya Mandi area
The theft took place in the Karahiya Mandi locality under the Chorhata police station limits. According to initial information, the accused targeted a house that had been locked for several days. Taking advantage of the absence of the family, the thieves broke the main lock and entered the premises.
Family was away due to school holidays
The house belongs to the Sharma family, who were not present at the time of the incident. The family had traveled to their native village Chhiboura due to school holidays. This absence gave the criminals an opportunity to carry out the burglary without interruption.
Neighbours alerted the family
The incident came to light when neighbours noticed that the lock on the main door was broken. Sensing something suspicious, they immediately informed the family. Upon receiving the information, the family rushed back and found their house ransacked. They later informed the police about the theft.
Cash, gold and silver stolen
Victim Kshama Sharma stated that the thieves stole around Rs 85,000 in cash from the house. In addition to the cash, approximately 10 tola of gold jewellery and nearly 1 kilogram of silver ornaments were also taken. The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be in lakhs.
CCTV footage provides leads
The entire incident was reportedly captured on CCTV cameras installed outside the house. The footage shows suspicious movements, which have been handed over to the police. Investigators are now examining the recordings to identify the culprits and track their movements.
Police begin investigation
Chorhata police have registered a case against unknown persons and launched a search operation. Officials stated that they are relying on CCTV evidence and local intelligence to crack the case soon. Increased patrolling in the area has also been initiated to prevent similar incidents.
