Ingredients for making stuffed idli
- Idli batter (market or home made)
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- Some curry leaves
- 1 finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup finely chopped vegetables (carrot, beans, capsicum)
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 1 boiled and mashed potato
- Finely chopped coriander leaves
Method of making stuffed idli
- First of all heat oil in a pan. Then add mustard seeds and urad dal and fry it.
- When the mustard seeds start crackling, add curry leaves and finely chopped onion and fry till golden brown.
- Now add all the chopped vegetables and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add turmeric, red chili, garam masala and salt and mix well.
- Finally add mashed potato and coriander leaves and mix well and turn off the gas. Your delicious stuffing is ready.
Lightly oil the plates of the idli maker. First pour a little idli batter in each mould. Now make a small ball of the prepared stuffing and place it in the centre of the batter. - Then, pour more idli batter on top to cover the stuffing completely.
- Heat water in the idli maker and place these plates in it. Steam on medium flame for 10-15 minutes.
- To check if the idlis are cooked or not, insert a toothpick. If it comes out clean, the idli is ready.
- Remove the hot stuffed idlis from the mould and serve with your favourite chutney (like coconut chutney or sambhar).
