Bilaspur,C.G
South East Central Railway has introduced its first rail engine fitted with the advanced Kavach safety system. The technology will now be installed in 551 engines to enhance railway safety and prevent accidents.
The work of gradually installing armor system in 551 rail engines of South East Central Railway has been started. It was started on Thursday by equipping an engine with armor system in the electric loco shed located in Bhilai.
Taking an important step towards strengthening safety and speed capacity in rail traffic, the work of indigenous Automatic Train Protection System 'Kavach' developed by Indian Railways has been started in South East Central Railway. The purpose of this system is to prevent collision between trains and provide real time signal related information to the loco pilot in the cabin itself.
This system exchanges signal data through communication network between station interlocking and locomotive. Also, RFID tags installed on the tracks are helpful in determining the exact position of the locomotive.
The work of installing armor system has been started in Nagpur-Jharsuguda railway section under South East Central Railway. Under the same, armor has been installed in this rail engine. On this occasion, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, South East Central Railway and Divisional Railway Manager Raipur were present. The work of Kavach system will be phased in the remaining locomotives as well.
Features and benefits of Kavach system
This is an advanced indigenous safety technology of Indian Railways. Which has been designed to make train operations safe and efficient. Through this automatic technology, now the prevention of head-on collision between two trains will be ensured. This system is fully capable of preventing accidents related to signal and speed. Reliable wireless communication is established in the entire section. Through which information about station interlocking system, signals and level crossings is directly received by the loco pilot.
