Drug Peddler Arrested in Bhopal with Cannabis Worth ₹70,000; Accused a Repeat Offender

In a major success under the state-wide anti-drug campaign “Nashe Se Doori, Hai Zaroori”, the Bhopal Crime Branch on Thursday nabbed a habitual offender with 3.88 kg of cannabis worth ₹70,000. The accused, identified as Ganesh Kuchbandiya (32), is a resident of Obeidullaganj in Raisen district and has a history of criminal activities.
Accused Caught Near MP Nagar Ground
According to officials, a tip-off revealed that Kuchbandiya was loitering near the Yes Bank ground in MP Nagar carrying illegal substances. Acting swiftly, the crime branch team detained him and searched his black-and-blue rucksack, recovering two tape-wrapped packets containing cannabis.
Booked Under NDPS Act
The accused has been booked under Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seized drugs have been valued at approximately ₹70,000.
History of Crime
Further investigation revealed that Kuchbandiya is a repeat offender with multiple past cases, including:
- Case No. 83/14 – Gambling Act (Obeidullaganj PS)
- Case No. 232/10 – Sections 147, 148, 149, 336 IPC
- Case No. 222/12 – Sections 294, 323, 34, 506 IPC
- Case No. 102/20 – Sections 294, 323, 506, 34 IPC
Officials stated that the probe is ongoing to identify the source of the cannabis and unravel the supply network.
