Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav visited Varanasi on Sunday night and Monday, where he offered prayers at key temples, interacted with local residents, and attended political and social engagements, officials said.
Dr. Yadav arrived in the city late Sunday evening, with his helicopter landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport around 10 pm. He was received by Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and local functionaries, who accorded him a warm welcome. From the airport, the Chief Minister proceeded to a hotel, where he held discussions with senior party leaders on organisational matters, upcoming political programmes, and issues related to coordination between party units. Sources said regional political developments and governance-related subjects were also part of the deliberations.
On Monday morning, Dr. Yadav visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, where he performed ritual worship and abhishek for nearly 30 minutes. He later interacted with devotees present at the shrine, including visitors from Madhya Pradesh, many of whom expressed enthusiasm on meeting the Chief Minister. Officials said he inquired about their well-being and sought blessings at the temple.
Following the visit to Kashi Vishwanath, the Chief Minister offered prayers at the Kal Bhairav Temple, another prominent religious site in the city. He performed traditional rituals and had a black thread tied on his wrist, in keeping with local customs associated with the temple.
After completing his temple visits, Dr. Yadav took a brief walk through the streets of Kashi, where he was seen interacting informally with residents and shopkeepers. During the walk, he stopped at a local stall and tasted ‘malaiyo’, a traditional winter delicacy for which Varanasi is known. His unscheduled interaction with locals drew attention from passersby and was widely discussed among residents.
Speaking to reporters later, Dr. Yadav described Varanasi as a city of deep spiritual and cultural significance. “Coming to Baba Vishwanath’s city brings great joy. Uttar Pradesh is amazing,” he said, adding that the city holds special importance as the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also congratulated the newly appointed BJP state president of Uttar Pradesh, expressing confidence that the party would continue to strengthen under new leadership.
The Chief Minister said governments led by the BJP were working in alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision for development. “We are all moving forward on the path of development as guided by the Prime Minister,” he said.
After completing his engagements in Varanasi, Dr. Yadav departed for Jaunpur to attend the thirteenth-day ceremony at the residence of Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare (Independent Charge) Girish Chandra Yadav, officials confirmed.
The visit combined religious observances, political interactions, and informal public outreach, reflecting the Chief Minister’s engagement with both organisational responsibilities and cultural traditions during his brief stay in Uttar Pradesh.
