Special Voter List Revision Begins in Indore

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list has officially started in Indore district under the supervision of the Election Commission of India (ECI). The initiative aims to ensure a transparent, accurate, and error-free electoral roll by identifying fake, duplicate, or deceased voters while adding all eligible citizens who may have been left out

According to the ECI’s timetable, training for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be completed by November 3, followed by a door-to-door verification drive from November 4 to December 4.
The draft voter list will be released on December 9, with claims and objections accepted between December 9, 2025, and January 8, 2026. After verification and hearings, the final electoral roll will be published on February 7, 2026.

Collector Chairs Review Meeting

A coordination meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Collector and District Election Officer Shivam Verma, attended by representatives of political parties and senior officials.
During the meeting, Additional Collector and Deputy District Election Officer Navjeevan Vijay Panwar, Assistant Deputy Election Officer Ajit Srivastava, and other officers explained the procedures and guidelines set by the ECI.

Collector Verma underlined that the SIR is not a routine formality but a systematic operation to clean up the voter list.

“Our priority is to ensure a 100% accurate and transparent voter list,” he said, urging political parties to assist BLOs in identifying genuine voters and removing fake entries.

Strict Action Against Irregularities

Verma asserted that the administration will adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards fake or erroneous voter entries.

“Every entry will be verified through door-to-door checks. Names of deceased, duplicate, or wrongly registered voters will be deleted to maintain the sanctity of the electoral roll,” he stated.

He also appealed to political party representatives to cooperate with officials in conducting the verification process with integrity.

Verification Across 2,625 Polling Stations

Under the SIR, BLOs will verify voter details across 2,625 polling stations in the district. Each Assembly constituency will have a designated Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), supported by Assistant EROs at the tehsil level.

BLOs will distribute enumeration forms (EFs), update voter records, and collect Form-6 applications for new voters. They will also mark deceased, shifted, or duplicate entries during verification.

Only the enumeration form will be required for verification—no additional documents. Verified names will appear in the draft roll, while those with incomplete verification will be notified. Appeals against ERO decisions can be filed with the District Magistrate, and second appeals with the Chief Electoral Officer.

Claims, Objections, and Final Publication

The draft electoral roll will include verified voters, while lists of absent, shifted, or deceased (ASD) voters will be publicly displayed and uploaded on the CEO’s website.
Hearings on these cases will be conducted by EROs and AEROs to ensure inclusion of all eligible voters and removal of ineligible ones. Volunteers will also assist voters during the process.

The ECI has directed that no polling booth should have more than 1,200 voters, and rationalisation will be done wherever necessary.

Political Response

Reacting to the exercise, Congress state spokesperson Neelabh Shukla linked the revision to the party’s campaign against voter fraud.

“After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched the ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod’ campaign, similar revision drives began in Bihar and now across 12 states, including Madhya Pradesh, to identify and remove fake and deceased voters,” Shukla said.
