Six Juveniles Escape from Rewa Observation Home After Breaking Bathroom Window, Police Launch Search Operation

Security arrangements at Rewa’s juvenile observation home have once again come under scrutiny after six juveniles escaped from the facility on Monday morning.

The incident took place around 7 am at the juvenile observation home operating under the Saman police station area, where the children allegedly broke the glass window of a bathroom and fled. The incident triggered panic among officials, and police teams were immediately deployed to trace the missing juveniles. According to initial information, all six were housed at the facility in connection with different cases and were undergoing rehabilitation under the juvenile justice system.

According to reports, it was a regular morning inside the observation home, with routine activities underway. During this time, some of the children reportedly used the excuse of going to the bathroom and managed to break the glass window installed there. Preliminary findings suggest that after escaping through the window, the children ran in different directions. For some time, staff members reportedly remained unaware of the incident. It was only during attendance and monitoring that officials realized some children were missing, following which a search operation was initiated inside the premises. By then, however, the juveniles had already escaped.

Police were immediately informed about the incident. Teams from Saman police station reached the spot and began search operations in surrounding areas. According to police sources, alerts have also been issued at bus stands, railway stations, marketplaces, and nearby villages. Officials said separate teams have been formed to search for the children, while CCTV footage is also being examined to determine the route they may have taken after escaping.

This is reportedly not the first such incident at the Rewa juvenile observation home. Similar cases have surfaced in the past where juveniles managed to escape after taking advantage of security lapses. Following the latest incident, questions are once again being raised about security arrangements at the facility. Reports suggest that despite earlier incidents and discussions about strengthening security measures, little visible improvement had taken place at the ground level.

The purpose of a juvenile observation home is to provide a reformative environment for children who become involved in criminal cases at a young age or are placed there under judicial procedures. Such institutions are expected to ensure both security and psychological rehabilitation. However, repeated incidents like these have raised concerns about whether supervision and management systems are functioning effectively.

Local residents have questioned how six juveniles could escape together during morning hours without immediate detection. Some believe the escape may have been planned in advance. However, police have not officially commented on this possibility and say investigations will determine whether the juveniles acted spontaneously or had prepared beforehand.

According to police officials, the identities of all six juveniles have been established and their families have also been informed. In many such cases, juveniles often attempt to return to familiar locations or their homes, which is why authorities are also monitoring possible destinations. Meanwhile, officials are gathering information from the management of the observation home regarding who was on duty and how monitoring systems were functioning at the time.

The incident has also triggered discussions about accountability at the administrative level. Officials indicate that a departmental inquiry into the security lapse may also be initiated. For now, authorities say the biggest challenge is to locate the missing juveniles safely, as their age makes them vulnerable to various risks after leaving supervised custody.
