Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district is once again set to receive national attention as preparations begin for a proposed visit by President Droupadi Murmu on June 21. The visit, if finalized, is expected to become another significant moment for India’s ambitious cheetah conservation programme, with forest officials and district administration already beginning preparations and reviewing security arrangements.
According to the proposed schedule, President Droupadi Murmu is expected to arrive at Kuno National Park during her Madhya Pradesh visit on June 21. Officials familiar with the preparations say there is a possibility that the President may stay overnight at Kuno before participating in scheduled activities the following day. Sources indicate that the main programme inside the national park is expected to last around 45 minutes.
The biggest attraction of the visit is likely to be the possible release of cheetahs brought from Botswana. Sources suggest that the remaining cheetahs currently under management could be released into larger enclosures or open forest areas by the President herself. Preparations related to the release process are reportedly being accelerated by park authorities ahead of the proposed event.
With indications of the President’s arrival, security arrangements around Kuno National Park and nearby areas have already been tightened. Officials are reviewing helipad arrangements, accommodation plans, route management and other VVIP security protocols. Senior forest department officials are said to be directly monitoring the preparations.
Kuno National Park has remained at the centre of global attention ever since India launched its cheetah reintroduction programme. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the first batch of cheetahs into the park, marking the formal beginning of the project. Officials believe that a presidential visit could provide fresh momentum and further international visibility to the ongoing conservation effort.
Although the final programme details are still subject to official confirmation, administrative activity around Kuno has increased significantly over the past few days. Local officials say preparations are being carried out keeping all possible arrangements ready as the proposed date approaches.
