Preparations for Simhastha 2028 Intensify: MP DGP Chairs Review Meeting in Bhopal

With the Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028 approaching, the Madhya Pradesh Police have ramped up preparations to ensure a safe and seamless experience for millions of devotees expected to visit Ujjain. On Friday, DGP Kailash Makwana led a high-level review meeting at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Bhopal, where strategies were discussed to maintain order and security throughout the mega event.

Focus on Technology-Driven Crowd and Safety Management

Senior police officers from across the state—including units from Indore, Khandwa, Ujjain, and surrounding districts—participated through video conferencing, while top officials from PHQ Bhopal were present in person. A comprehensive presentation was shared, outlining the use of technology in crowd regulation, surveillance, and emergency response:

·         Crowd Control: Streamlined entry and exit routes at ghats, designated parking areas, and volunteer help centers will be set up. Queue management systems and digital display boards will guide pilgrims.

·         Surveillance: Sensitive areas will be monitored using drone surveillance and AI-powered CCTV systems with high-resolution capabilities. These will be installed at key points including bathing sites and transit zones.

·         Real-Time Communication: A centralized Integrated Control Room (ICR) will coordinate with mobile field communication units for up-to-the-minute situational updates. Backup wireless and mobile networks will be established to ensure constant connectivity.

Cyber Security and Social Media Monitoring

A dedicated cyber monitoring unit will be activated to track and respond to any online threats, misinformation, or suspicious digital activity. Social media platforms will also be under observation to prevent the spread of misleading content that could disrupt event proceedings.

Robust Security and Volunteer Deployment

Multiple police units—including Quick Response Teams (QRT), Rapid Action Force (RAF), traffic police, and women officers—will be deployed strategically across various zones. Mobile patrols and area-specific nodal officers will oversee operations. In addition, NCC cadets, civil defense personnel, and scout volunteers will join forces to support the police in handling the crowd efficiently.

Support for Deployed Personnel

Arrangements for temporary accommodations, canteens, and rest areas will be made for personnel on duty, aligned with their shifts and responsibilities. In Khandwa, where high footfall is expected at Omkareshwar, a separate security and crowd control plan has already been drafted by local authorities.

The meeting underscored the importance of proactive planning, coordination, and use of modern tools to ensure that Simhastha 2028 remains a spiritually enriching and incident-free event for all participants.
